So Far So Good.....

On December 15th (Monday) we went to SLC for Alyson to have her first real check up with her cardiologist since being discharged from the hospital. We LOVE the cardiologist that we picked! All of the cardiologists are so great but this particular one has followed us all the way through from the beginning when I was pregnant and he was the one that diagnosed Alyson's condition. Her diuretic medication was changed from giving it twice daily to once a day now. He is going to leave it up to us depending on how she is doing or looks if we need to give it twice daily again. He also increased her arrhythmia medication because her SVT's started to come back. Alyson had another 24 hour heart monitor this last week put on before her appointment so they could get a good look at her heart rate. They found from this that in a 24 hour period she had at least 300 SVT's which were so fast that even our monitor didn't pick them up that she was having them. I asked if her arrhythmias will get any better after her next surgery since the blood flow direction will change and he said that it could make it better and may be able to ween her off of this medicine in the future. He also said that kids with heart conditions may take some time eating really good by bottle but they eventually get the hang of it again. That was great news for me because it gave me reassurance that all will get better in the future with her eating. As of right now her surgery for the Glenn procedure will be in February. We don't have an exact date right now as we have to wait for them to schedule us into the month for the surgery. She will continue being on oxygen until her surgery because as she grows, the BT shunt they put in will remain the same size and less oxygen will be going through her body so this will help hold her off with the surgery and keep her oxygen levels where they want them.
