Open Heart Sugery #1 - October 3
Alyson's cardiology team called me on October 1st and said that she was going to need open heart surgery to sew off her tricuspid and pulmonary valves and also to put in a BT shunt. They reviewed her last echocardiogram and they noticed there was a significant back flow through her tricuspid valve into the atrium which was making her heart work harder. Frank and I went to SLC on met with the surgeons the day before her surgery. They said that the risk of the surgery would be 20-30% which was definitely not something that I wanted to hear. We both felt very comfortable after meeting the surgeons and the staff who would be assisting in the surgery as we knew she was going to be in excellent hands. Alyson was 25 days old when she had this surgery done and she recovered much faster than any of us or the Dr.'s would have imagined.
