Day 1 Updates

Today was a really great day for Alyson. She had her Internal Jugular line and catheter removed and she no longer looks swollen like she did right after surgery. She looks just like herself now....just not quite in a smiley mood yet but who would be in a great mood the day after a major surgery like that. She has been getting Morphine every 4-5 hours when she starts showing signs of pain/discomfort. She will probably be getting a Synagis shot (for RSV) tomorrow because there probably isn't much left in her system from the last shot after being on the heart/lung machine. The Dr's also said that her drainage tubes will also most likely come out tomorrow. They would like her Systolic number (top number) for her blood pressure to come down a little but other than that she has been doing really good. She is right on track for where she needs to be.

And the best news of all........Alyson ate 8.5 ounces by mouth so far today!!! We only gave her 2 ounces at a time and it is only 20cal formula instead of 30cal formula. She drank every drop we offered her and we didn't have to put any down her tube! I am so amazed how well she is doing with eating just 24 hours after her surgery. This is the most she has eaten by mouth I think since she was in the NICU when she was first born. I don't know if she is doing so good because she isn't drinking 'cream' (30cal) or she really does feel better and has more energy now. Either way, we are going to keep hoping and praying that this is a trend that will continue to happen so we an get rid of her tube for good!

Yay for Alyson! That is so great that she is eating a little bit more from her bottle now. Hopefully this surgery helps with her energy levels...now she will have the energy to eat. Isn't that weird to think about, not having energy to eat every day? (I wish that was my problem) :) I am so happy that she is doing well. She is in our prayers.
